Things I've been into lately
Hello from the end of July. It is so hot here. I cannot believe how quickly this year is flying!
I am back to work already, starting my second year as a vice principal. Last year, I was all nerves and doubt about my abilities, and while those things aren’t completely gone, it is nice to start the year feeling more confident.
I didn’t get to 90% of my summer to-do list, which I’m deeply disappointed by, but I’ve been prioritizing being in the pool, eating ice cream, and doing things that feel more fun than organizing my closet or decluttering my office. I’ve read some great books and dithered with some writing and generally tried to relax. Am I doing my best at taking care of life things? Probably not! I’ll get there.
Here are some things I’m enjoying lately.
I don’t necessarily need to be back-to-school shopping, but Loft sent me the cutest things from their newest collection. I can’t wait to pair this top with cute jeans or black pants. I’m wearing this simple top and barrel-leg pants to an all-day training tomorrow because I want to look professional while also being extremely comfortable.
One of the most unexpected developments of my year is that I’ve gotten really into the WNBA. The Golden State Valkyries are my team, and I’m mildly obsessed with Kaitlyn Chen (her immaculate vibes! The positive energy that changes the feeling of the game whenever she’s off the bench!) and I’m going to my first Valkyries game this Sunday! I am PUMPED!
Every time I travel, I swear I’m going to keep a journal. I never do, but I like this article’s tips and tricks. Bookmarking it for my next adventure.
Teacher friends: Loft also has THE MOST ADORABLE Teacher sweatshirt right now, and until August 18th, they’re donating half of the proceeds from it to Donors Choose, an organization that supports schools and teachers in getting the supplies they need. And teachers, you can get an additional 15% off. Get yourself a first-day-of-school outfit! You deserve it.
I’ve written before about how much I love Bad Art Everyday, but Margaret writes the most thoughtful, helpful, gentle pieces on things that matter. A few I loved recently: simplifying the way we spend time, Mary Oliver May, and her summer muses.
I love everything I have from Thatch, but I’m obsessed with this sundial chrysoprase necklace. I keep trying to talk myself out of it, but I get weaker by the day.
Chelsea Bieker, one of my favorite writers, asked for a list of the best advice her readers had ever received, and then compiled all the tips in a book. There are some gems — get it here. I have some tips in there :)
I recently read that serious biomolecular aging happens at age 44 and age 60. Since I’ll be 44 next year, I’m getting even more serious about doing everything I can to take care of myself. I liked these tips a lot; however, I’d add something in about mobility and stretching, especially in your hips. And, while it may not be on the list of tips, I’m obsessed with this PMS SMAS Lifting Band and this lifting mist for my chin and jawline. It only takes 10 minutes and the difference it makes is shocking.
I hope all is well in your world! Tell me something that is/was on your summer to-do list. And then, tell me how you get yourself to do things.

This is my year to lean into the WNBA! Go Liberty 🐘🗽
