What I Thought I'd Be Wearing As A Vice Principal vs. What I Actually Wear
With links and recs!
I spent a considerable amount of time this summer developing a work wardrobe. I assumed that as an administrator, I’d need “fancy” outfits for meetings and trainings.
As it turns out, things are far more casual than I anticipated. My school site errs on the casual side, and my day-to-day life involves much more lunchtime supervision than any high-powered meeting requiring a dress. I’m loving my new role, and I am definitely not complaining about a much chiller dress code than I expected.
I’ve quickly developed a roster of favorite items for a wardrobe that balances casual comfort but still manages to look professional-ish for those moments when I need to meet with a parent.

TOPS:
Gap Modern Crewneck Tee — Just thick enough, incredibly soft, and the sleeve length is just right.
Old Navy Rib Knit High-Neck Tank — It’s still in the triple digits here, and I refuse to sweat more than necessary. This has wide straps and a high neck, so it manages to be appropriate and looks great with wide-leg pants!
Maeve Ribbed Muscle Tank — A nice halfway point between a tank top and a t-shirt.
Not pictured: school t-shirts! All the time!
BOTTOMS:
Ruti On-The-Loose Work Pants — THE BEST PANTS. They’re comfortable, hold their shape, breathe well, and are made of the best fabric. I love them so much. If I could wear them every day, I would.
Lululemon Stretch Woven Ruffle Waist Wide-Leg Pant — Long name, but the easiest-to-wear pants. They pull on, and the ruffle waist is really cute, especially with a tucked in top.
Izzie Relaxed Pull-On Barrel Pants — I have these in both the cropped length and the full-length, and they are SO comfortable. I love the barrel silhouette, too!
Ruti Go-To Skirt — This skirt is made of the same material as the Ruti pants above, and when I wore this to school, I got so many compliments FROM THE TEENS—the highest compliment.
Colette Cropped Wide-Leg Pants — The ultimate pant. Forever.
SHOES:
ON Cloud 6 — I have acquired a bonkers number of these shoes. I love them for work and I wear them to Orangetheory, too. They’re so comfortable and they pair well with workout clothes and any pants! I truly want these in every color and style. The hype is real.
Nike Pacific — A vintage look with a ton of support and a sleek look. I didn’t think I could pull off a sneaker like this, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised.
Puma Club Era II Sneaker — My dream all-white sneaker. These are super cute and extremely comfortable.
Rothy’s Weekend Slide — These are SO supportive and cute. I can wear them all day! A magical sandal.
Birkenstocks — I wear mostly tennis shoes, but I still love my Birkenstocks.
OTHER ESSENTIALS:
CALPAK Water Bottle Holder — I know that this is supremely dorky, but as a student once said, I am “passionate about hydration” (I carry a water bottle everywhere, judge away!). I spend an hour or more wandering around during lunch, supervising kids. I need water! I also need detention slips, a pen, lip gloss, hand sanitizer, my phone…it’s too much to carry. This has been a lifesaver.
EBY Relief Bra — I have tried every bra on earth over the past few years and hated them all, but this is THE ONE. It’s so comfortable and I love that it’s wireless. I am also a big fan of their matching briefs and their sheer sets.
Supergoop Everyday Play Sunscreen — I am serious about protecting my skin in the sun, and this is my favorite sunscreen EVER.
Lululemon Uplifting Big Bow Scrunchie — The cutest little detail for any outfit. I love a bow!

Adorable!
